Mobile Identification # - what exactly is it?

I have a Verizon Wireless phone,

and I was looking at the settings,

and under "My Number,"

there are two numbers.

The first one is clear to me.

"Mobile Device #" and under it is my 10 digit phone number.

843-XXX-XXXX.

But the second one confuses me.

It's called "Mobile Identification #"

and the number is another 843-XXX-XXXX one.

But the number isn't familiar.

Anyone know what this means?

And, also, there's something called a "NAM".

What might that be?

Thanks for the help :)

The Mobile Identifaction Number or MID is what your phone uses to associate your phone with the network.
