I'm a 17 year old male and my mum is overprotective, really. She rarely lets me go anywhere and I said I shpuld have a mobile phone as it'll make it easier and she'll worry less, but she says I'm to young for one! She says I'll get one when I go into university(wtf).
She treats a mobile phone like a house or something!
Am I being reasonable? What can I do to convince her that I am old enough?
Mobile phone?
Get a job and pay for it yourself.
Reply:are you old enough to pay for it yourself?
Reply:i know kids who are 10 and have phones. Soon, she can't tell you NOT to. haha
Reply:Answer: offer to pay for it. And anyway, if you get a plan, the phone itself is normally free.
Do you lose a lot of things? If so that's probably her root concern. Work out WHY she treats it with such reverence, and convince her not to. GET TO THE ROOT.
Reply:Offer to pay for it yourself. If she would let you go on a familyshare type plan, you could chip in $10/month. Paying for it yourself shows how much it means to you.
If she's paranoid, offer to let her inspect your phone whenever she wants, to see what texts you've been sending or whatever (I know that's very 'big brother', but maybe it will pacify her).
