Mobile Internet?

All this new technology is leaving me feeling like I've been hibernating in a cave! I want to know, if I buy a random USB Modem Dongle and plug it into my laptop, can I just use my standard sim card, plug it into the dongle and away I go? Or do I have to sign up to a networks' mobile internet package? I'm asking this because I have a browsing bundle with my orange pay monthly mobile phone package. I was thinking would I be able to just put my mobile phone sim card into the dongle and use that to surf the net on my laptop everywhere??

Mobile Internet?
This would depend upon the browsing plan you have. You likely have a plan intended to cover the data usage generated from a device centric phone, possibly even just 5mb which a laptop would eat in about 5 minutes. If you use the SIM in your Laptop the usage will JUMP and you could get hit with a massive bill. If you have att/cingular, and you have an unlimited data plan on your phone, you may get away with it for a while, but eventually the amount of data used will be noticed as it is impossible for the phone to use the massive amounts of data that the laptop will use.
Reply:No look at Vodafone.co.uk they are doing a package that picks up a mobile signal for you laptop anywhere so your not tied to the house/office.

If you use your mobile then expect a bill running into 1,000s
