T-mobile Cell Phone?

Alright, I recently ruined my old cell phone. It was T-mobile and I used a sim card with it. I'm going to get a new phone and put the old sim card in it, but would it work if the phone was a diferent company than T-Mobile and if the new phone was Unlocked?

no verizon phones do not use sim card it would have to be either a tmobile phone or an at%26amp;t unlocked phone.
